Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: Our highly efficient team from Road Traffic Inspectorate is currently managing the scene of the scholar transport accident on the N3 Southbound, before the Marianhill Toll Plaza
The RTI team and Traffiuc Ambassador Ayanda Msweli have just informed me that 11 children and two adults have been injured when a minibus taxi overturned.
The injured have been taken to the nearest hospital. We wish them a speedy recovery.
At this stage, the preliminary report indicates that the minibus taxi overturned after a left rear tyre came off.
I have tasked the RTI team to work with police to establish the roadworthiness of the minibus taxi.
What could cause the wheel locknut fastening failure?
Finally, we experienced another accident last night after 20h00 when a bus caught fire just after Mandeni Toll Plaza.
Three bus passengers, who were escaping fire, were injured after they were hit by two light motor vehicles that were involved in a collision. The bus was travelling from a wedding to Durban. We also wish the injured a speedy recovery.
We thank God that no one died from the two accidents.
We request motorists to approach any accident scene with caution in order to avoid the loss of life.
