Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit arrest suspects with unlicensed firearms

WESTERN CAPE – Vigilant members of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit were busy with crime prevention initiatives to combat gang related shooting in the area when they noticed two suspects running with firearms in their hands in Orpheus Street, Eastridge, Mitchell’s Plain, on Saturday afternoon.

The members pursued the suspects and searched the premises where they ran into upon which they found a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition hidden in the ceiling of the house. Further investigation led them to the bedroom where they found one suspect and seized a 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition hidden under the bed. Both suspects aged 24 and 39 were arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

They will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.
