WESTERN CAPE – Following the Safer Festive Season launch last Wednesday, 15 October 2025, in Khayelitsha, police members embarked on crime prevention initiatives to fight gang violence and other serious and violent crime in the province.
On Monday, 20 October 2025, members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted a intelligence driven operation in Groenpoort Walk, Hanover Park and searched a premises and confiscated a 7.65 pistol without a serial number with ammunition which was hidden in a gutter. They arrested a 29-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
In Elsies River Anti-Gang Unit members were doing foot patrols when they received information about a firearm that is hidden in a dirt bin. The members seized a 9mm pistol without a serial number and no arrest was made. The investigation into the seizure is ongoing.
Furthermore, the members followed up information of firearms at a premises in Johnvlei Walk, Hanover Park, where they arrested an adult male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. They found a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition and a box containing ten rounds of ammunition hidden under the mattress in the bedroom.
In another intervention, members of the Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit were busy with patrols in Ottery area when they noticed a male with a firearm in his hand. The members chased after the suspect and seized a 9mm pistol. The adult male was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm.
The suspects will make their respective court appearances in Athlone and Wynberg Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow.
