Six speeding motorists arrested in Gemiston

On Wednesday 15 October 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) High Speed Unit Officers, conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of six (6) motorists, between the ages of nineteen (19) and sixty (60) years old, in Germiston.

As part of the transport month, the operation was focused on to enforcing compliance with speed limits, as speed is one of the major contribution factors of road fatalities in the City of Ekurhuleni.

The operation was conducted on Rand Airport road, with a designated speed limit of 70km/h. During the operation, motorists driving a BMW motor bike, a silver Suzuki, x2 white Hyundai, a white Mercendes and a yellow Renault, were stopped after the speed measuring equipment clocked them traveling different speeds, with the highest speed being 164 km/h.

All six (6) motorists were arrested for being incontravention of the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996 and detained at Germiston Police Station, facing charges of exceeding the speed limit.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) advises that, motorists should to adhere to speed limit, and as failure to comply will result in them being held accountable for their actions and will face the full might of the law.
