The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Kwa-Thema Precinct Officers apprehended a 20-year-old male suspect for possession of unlicensed firearms, in the Duduza area.
While patrolling the area, Officers came across a silver VW Polo that was driving at a high speed, without registration plates, on Setape Street. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was asked about the number plates and his driver’s license, and he could not produce any.
The Officers then asked the driver to open the boot of the vehicle, where Officers discovered two (2) AK-47 semi auto type with serial numbers and a pump gun Destroyer with intact serial numbers and eighteen (18) live ammunitions and magazines. The driver alleges that he was transporting the firearms to his uncle at the security site. The father of the suspect later showed up and alleges that his son did not realize there were firearms in the vehicle.
The suspect was arrested and detained at the Duduza police station and will soon appear before court.
