Members of Grassy Park police were conducting crime prevention patrols in Ottery on Friday morning, 24 October 2025, when they noticed an unknown male who acted suspicious when he saw the police vehicle approaching. The male started running, and the members gave chase and apprehended the suspect. They found a 9mm pistol with 28 rounds of ammunition in his possession. The 29-year-old suspect faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention, members of the Mitchell’s Plain Sub District Crime Combat Team, searched a premises in Choir Street, Steenberg, where they found a 9mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition, in a bag in the bedroom. They arrested an adult male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
