Community Safety, Roads and Transport MEC: Mr Jabu Ntsokolo Ishmael Mbalula is leading Safer Festive Season roadblock #operationshanela2 on N1 National Road, Bloemfontein – Free State Province. Different role-players in #provjoints; South African Police Service, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport (Traffic Department, Road Safety) and Department of Health (Emergency Medical Services) paraded at 15:45 and assembled a roadblock that will be carried out until the morning of Christmas.
The crime prevention activities aimed at the safety of road users on pilgrimage and traveling to different holiday destinations, are also focused on; prevention of illicit economy such as transportation of contraband goods, proliferation of illegal firearms, illicit drugs, and theft of copper cable (second-hand goods), tourism safety and protection of economic hub, as well as well as road safety and traffic law enforcement.
Two (2) suspects were arrested; one found in Contravention of Immigration Act and the other for transgression of National Road Traffic Act, tried to pay their way out of trouble, and were charged with bribery. Written notices to appear before court (J534) were issued for offenses such as driving motor vehicles without licenses, expired license discs, unroadworthy motor vehicles, and failure to display discs.
