Police in Ohrigstad in Limpopo have arrested four suspects aged between 29 and 32 on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, including contravention of the Immigration Act.
The arrests followed a stop and search operation conducted by members of Ohrigstad SAPS on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at around 11:30, at the intersection of R36 and R533 within the Ohrigstad policing precinct.
During the operation, police stopped a silver VW Golf 6, occupied by four males. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm, a magazine, and 13 live rounds of ammunition found on the vehicle floor.
All the occupants failed to take ownership of the firearm, which resulted in their immediate apprehension.
Further investigations revealed that two of the four suspects were in contravention of the Immigration Act.
The circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and ammunition are still under police investigation.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 23 January 2026.
Police investigations are ongoing.
