R30 Theunissen, Free State 18 September
Three people were seriously injured when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a small truck on the R30 between Theunissen and Welkom in the Free State.
ER24 Paramedics, fire crews and other services were dispatched to the scene and found that a car had basically driven head-on underneath the small truck.
The occupants of the car were severely trapped in the vehicle and it took rescue workers and fire-fighters over an hour to free them from the wreck.
Due to the severity of the mechanism of the collision, a female patient had to be airlifted to a hospital in the area.
The other patients were transported by ER24 and assisting services by road.
A woman and a baby, also believed to be in the car at the time, unfortunately had to be declared deceased.
The driver of the truck only sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a nearby hospital for further management.
It is unknown exactly what had caused the collision.
The road remained closed pending the removal of the wreckages.
