Police are searching for the 35-year-old awaiting trial suspect who escaped from lawful custody on Sunday morning, 25 July 2021 at Kidds Beach Police Station, in East London.
Initial investigation indicates that the suspect was being escorted to the private bathrooms and ready to be transported to East London Police Cells when he escaped from the police guard. The circumstances surrounding his escape are currently under investigation.
The escapee Mawethu Dingela was earlier issued with a warrant of arrest after he failed to attend court on a case of House Breaking and Theft on 06 July 2021. SAPS members searched police premises and the outer buildings as well as the nearby bushes at the back of the police station, but without success. A task team has been established to trace and re-arrest the suspect.
