The Anti-Gang Unit accompanied by Welkom SAPS Crime Intelligence, deployed in the Lejweleputswa area, conducted intensive patrols in Thabong and Welkom on 21 November 2023. Members operationalized information received and proceeded to Thabong where a 40-year-old male was arrested after an unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen solar panels were found at his house.
The team proceeded to Thandanani in Thabong at about 07:20, where they found two males in a house. After searching the house ammunition was found and various power tools were recovered. A 34-year-old undocumented male and his accomplice, aged 30, were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act, possession of suspected stolen goods and illegal possession of ammunition.
At about 08:30, the team proceeded to Bronville where patrol, stop and searches were conducted. They came across a male who upon noticing police presence, started running to the opposite direction. Members caught him after a brief chase and it was discovered that he is not in possession of proper documents to be in the country.
At about 11:00, the team followed further information to News Stands in Thabong where upon arrival at a house they met with 48-year-old undocumented person and found suspected stolen property such as laptops and computers in his house.
The team proceeded to Orange Groove still conducting stop and searches and again came across 27-year-old male who was arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act.
Operationalizing intelligence led information, the Anti-Gang Unit proceeded to Themba in Thabong, where upon arrival at a house they found and arrested a 30-year-old wanted suspect for a hijacking incident that took place earlier this month.
All seven suspects will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
