An intelligence driven operation conducted by members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit, Crime Intelligence and Provincial Organised Crime Detectives at a storage facility in Roeland Street, Cape Town on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, led to the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs and the unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Armed with intelligence about drugs and firearms being stored at the mentioned address, the members operationalised the information and pounced on the self-storage facility where they found the suspect (male) at one of the units. They conducted a search of the unit upon which they discovered 15 bricks of cocaine of about 15 kilograms (1kg each) with an estimated street value of R18 million as well as one AK 47 rifle, an Uzzi, five 9mm pistols and an assortment of ammunition.
The 40-year-old male will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court once charged for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and dealing in drugs.
The provincial commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt Gen (Adv) TE Patekile praised the integrated effort which led to the discovery of the drugs and firearms which in the wrong hands, could cause havoc in communities where gang and gun violence are prevalent. “SAPS remains resolute to eradicate drug abuse and the prevalence of firearms which poses a threat to the safety of communities in the Western Cape”, said Lt Gen (Adv) TE Patekile.
