A 62-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 09 September 2025, during an operation conducted by the multidisciplinary team at a certain farm in Elukwatini area.
The team known for its strategic and intelligence led approach was executing a disruptive duties when the suspect was found with illegal mining equipment. He was charged for illegal possession of the equipment as well as for violation of mining and environmental related laws.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.
The arrest forms part of the ongoing efforts to clamp down illegal mining activities and to restore law and order in the communities.
During the operation, illicit mining items were confiscated, including phendukas, generators, steel balls, and other equipment.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the great work performed by the team members.
