A 42-year-old businessman is expected to appear in Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate court soon following his arrest for the possession and sale of illicit cigarettes, counterfeit goods, and unregistered medicine.
Apparently, on 25 July 2025 at about 10:55 the arrest was made during operation conducted by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Harrismith Public Order Police. Acting on intelligence, authorities raided a commercial property at Mangaung Village in Qwaqwa, where they uncovered a significant quantity of illegal merchandise, including tobacco products and unauthorised pharmaceutical items.

The confiscated items are currently being processed as evidence, and further investigations are underway to determine the full scope of the illegal operation.
The SAPS has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity relating to the sale of counterfeit goods or unlicensed medicines.
