Garden Route District Rural Flying Squad members confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R24 000 on the N12 near Oudtshoorn and arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the find.
On Friday, 28 July 2023, the members were strategically deployed along the N12 between George and Oudtshoorn where they set up a vehicle check point. At about 17:50 the team pulled over a Toyota Avanza for routine check which was enroute to Oudtshoorn. A search of the vehicle ensued during which the police members found a stash of 400 mandrax tablets in a sports bag belonging to one of the occupants of the vehicle. The police arrested the man on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The suspect remains in custody. He is expected to make his first appearance in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ court on Monday, 31 July 2023 on a charge of dealing in drugs.
In an unrelated incident, on Thursday, 27 July 2023 Still Bay police arrested two men at Melkhoutfontein, Still Bay after a 9mm Glock firearm and 77 rounds of ammunition were seized. Investigation reveals that the firearm was stolen during a burglary in the area last year. Information was followed-up last week which led to the discovery.
The duo remain in custody. The suspects aged 31 and 33 are scheduled to appear in court tomorrow 31 July 2023 on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
