Members of #OperationShanela II are hard at work, ridding the Cape Flats of unlicensed firearms and illegal drugs which are the root cause of violent crimes. On Sunday, 25 January 2026, at approximately 13:00, members raided a house in Linge Street, Zwelitsha, Nyanga after receiving intelligence about suspected illegal activity. During the search, they found a black and silver pistol without a serial number, 30 mandrax tablets and 26 half mandrax tablets. A 26-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of drugs. Once charged, he will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court.
Meanwhile, a concerned member of the community approached Operation Shanela II members in Hanover Park, after witnessing a male pointing a firearm.
