Eight people sustained various injuries when a mini bus collided into the back of a truck on the N8, Mandela View towards Bloemfontein.
Shortly before 6pm, paramedics from ER24 and Mangaung Emergency Services arrived on the scene where they found the front of the mini bus wedged under the back of the truck. Eight people were found with minor to moderate injuries. All of the passengers were able to be removed from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by the Mangaung Fire Department. They had to use hydraulic rescue tools to free him from the wreckage.
Once freed, he was transported to a nearby hospital for further care. The remainder of the patients were transported to various hospitals in the area.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene.
In another collision, approximately an hour later, paramedics from ER24 attended to a cyclist that was knocked down along Nelson Mandela Avenue in Bloemfontein. Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene.
A motorbike rider was also injured in a collision along President Paul Kruger Road in Bloemfontein at approximately the same time. He was treated on scene for minor injuries and transported to Pelonomi Hospital for further care.
