The operational strategies implemented through intelligence led operations with special focus on gang related crimes in the Northern areas resulted in positive results during a 7 hour operation from Sunday evening, 12August 2018 to Monday morning, 13 August 2018.
During the operation, a total of 37 arrests were effected for various crimes including assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, house breaking, murder, attempted murder, contravention of bail conditions, rape, house robbery, carjacking and possession of drugs.
The operation included detective and visible policing members, Provincial Gang Investigation Unit, SAPS Air Wing, Mount Road OCC members, LCRC and Tactical Response Team(p (TRT). Over 50 houses in Helenvale were searched focussing on wanted persons, drugs and firearms. Several quantities of dagga, mandrax and tik was confiscated. A 9mm firearm was also confiscated and an enquiry docket opened for investigation.
The arrested suspects will appear in court soon.
Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major General Thembisile Patekile lauded the teams involved and deemed the operation a success.’ It is clear when we police in a co-ordinated and targeted approach, we are certain to conquer serious and violent crimes. We will continue to stamp the Authority of the State and ensure that they (criminals) are driven out of our areas and also arrested,’ added Major General Patekile.
