The Cluster conducted Operation Fiela II together with Traffic Departmen and Public Service Act members. The King William’s Town Station Commander, Colonel Nomvuyo Mrwebi briefed the members during a parade ensuring all members are operational ready. She emphasized members about Police safety measures that must be adhered to.
Police including PSA members were patrolling at the Mall and also distributed pamphlets containing crime awareness information. Members took the time to communicate with shoppers on safety tips and ensuring the safety of our citizens.
Police together with members of the Traffic Department also conducted a roadblock on R63, the road between Dimbaza and King William’s Town. Police stopped motorists and pamphlets were also distributed, two hundred and thirty one (231) vehicles were stopped and one hundred and two (102) people were searched. During the roadblock, a 40-year-old male was arrested for possession of dagga. Traffic fines to the amount of R18 200.00 were issued to the motorists contravening traffic regulations.
The patrols in the CBD and stop and search operation that was led by the Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngubelanga, also yielded good successful results after they arrested a 29-year-old male in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Another 34-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of dagga during the patrols and dangerous weapons were confiscated as part of crime prevention efforts.
These suspects are due to appear at King William’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 06 August 2018.
The Cluster Commander Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga thanked the members for their dedication in fighting crime and their commitment in ensuring that our communities are safe and secure. He also thanked the external stakeholders that always form partnership with Police in fighting crime and in ensuring that perpetrators of crime are brought to justice. “We will continue with our operations as part of our crime prevention duties”, he added.
