In a quest to bring perpetrators to book and ensuring that communities are safe, the police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit conducted tracing operations in the Mitchell’s Plain area last night. During searches in Lentegeur they apprehended a suspect with an unlicensed firearm. A preliminary investigation led the members to the house of the suspect in Lilac Street where they conducted a compliance inspection. A 6.35 Barletta pistol with seven rounds of ammunition were found in a safe. The suspect, a 29-year-old man was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and his licensed firearm, a 9mm NZ pistol with 117 9mm rounds were also handed in.
In an unrelated matter Anti-Gang Unit members also arrested two suspects aged 19 and 23 who were wanted in connection with two murder cases which occurred in Lentegeur and Mitchell’s Plain.
The fourth suspect was arrested by the members for illegal possession of firearm. The arrested suspects are expected to appear in court once charged.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the members of this new unit with their progress to bring perpetrators to book.
