The TMPD has noticed with growing concern the alarming number of vehicles impounded due to illegal parking within the City of Tshwane. In the month of May alone, TMPD impounded approximately 1100 vehicles for parking violations, which raised a serious concern in driver compliance and road safety.
Illegal parking poses significant risks to motorists, pedestrians and emergency services. Vehicles parked unlawfully obstruct traffic flow, creating hazardous conditions for other road users. More critically, it can block access to vital buildings, including emergency department access, potentially delaying urgent medical and emergency responses that save lives.
Pedestrians are also adversely affected when sidewalks are blocked by illegally parked vehicles. Forced to walk on roadways, pedestrians face increased danger, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
The TMPD urges all motorists to exercise responsibility by parking only in designated areas. Compliance with parking regulations is essential to ensure the safety and accessibility of our roads and public spaces. Failure to adhere to these laws will result in strict enforcement actions, including vehicle impoundment to protect the community and maintain order.
