The Port Shepstone Public Order Police conducted an intelligence-driven operation aimed at eradicating the proliferation of illegal firearms in the Harding policing area. The operation, which was held yesterday, yielded positive results when police recovered firearms and arrested a 42-year-old man at his homestead in Madwaleni Reserve at KwaMachi.
Police recovered two 303 rifles, an AK 47 rifle and an assortment of 108 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was detained and charged for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition at Harding SAPS. He is appearing at the Harding Magistrates Court today. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of any crime.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers for the arrests and recoveries.
