Members of the Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein Platoons 5 and 6 arrested five suspects in a swoop.
Members of the Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein Platoon 6, who were patrolling along the M10 Road, noticed a group of males running across an open veld towards Pieter Swarts, Bloemside 2. The operators suspected mischief and followed them on foot to investigate.
Two victims reported to the police that they had been robbed at gunpoint by the fleeing suspects. Platoon 5 operators joined the search for the suspects, and four males aged between 24 and 28 were hunted down and successfully arrested. A 9mm silver pistol and a magazine loaded with one bullet were found and seized. A case of robbery with a firearm was registered at Kopanong Police Station, while a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at Bloemspruit Police Station.
Further information led the team to a drug house in Freedom Square. A search was conducted, and five full, seven half and eight quarter Mandrax tablets were found and seized. The 30-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of and dealing in illicit drugs. Another case docket was opened at Kopanong Police Station.
All five suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
