EASTERN CAPE – A (46) year-old suspect was served with a court summon by the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on Thursday, on allegations of fraud and corruption.
It is alleged that in July 2015, the suspect submitted a false claim on Roads Accident Funds (RAF), purporting to have been a pedestrian that was injured in a hit-and-run accident in Port Elizabeth.
The Hawks’ preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly sustained his injuries when he was assaulted by two people in Albert Road, in Walmer, Port Elizabeth on 15 July 2015.
Soon after his release from the hospital, he allegedly reported a hit-and-run accident as opposed to the assault charge. Further investigation also showed that the alleged fraudulent claim would have prejudiced RAF a potential loss of R430 000.00.
The suspect is expected to appear in the New Law Court in Port Elizabeth on 10 December 2020.
