A 31-year-old mother and her two sons aged 8 and 3 perished in a shack fire on Friday night, 5 March 2021 at about 21:00 at Snakepark Galeshewe.
A 13-year-old girl was from the nearby shop when she noticed the shack on fire. She rushed to the house and managed to rescue a 10-year-old boy by getting him through the window of the burning shack. The 10-year-old boy sustained burn wounds and was taken to the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe hospital for treatment.
It is alleged that the 31-year-old mother was sleeping when the 13-year-old went to the shop to buy water. The cause of fire is unknown at this stage and an Inquest docked has been opened for further police investigation.
