Disarming suspects is a priority in the Western Cape and our specialized units did just that when members of the Anti-Gang Unit in collaboration with Crime Intelligence conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Abbotsdale, Malmesbury, Wednesday morning, 09 March 2022, and arrested a 34-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs.
The members executed a search warrant at the premises and found firearms, several rounds of ammunition, 198 mandrax tablets, a large quantity of crystal meth, a flare gun, and an undisclosed amount of cash on the premises.
The suspect will make a court appearance today in Malmesbury on the mentioned charges.
In an unrelated matter members of Manenberg police were busy with crime prevention patrols in Thames Walk, Manenberg last night, when they noticed a male who acted suspiciously when he saw the police vehicle approaching. The members stopped and searched a 38-year-old suspect and confiscated a firearm with ammunition in his possession.
Once charged, the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
