Continued efforts to stop the illegal drug trade in the Western Cape resulted in the arrests of three adult males and two females when they were caught with drugs with an estimated street value of R200 000-00.
Members of the Rural Flying Squad conducted a vehicle check point on the N7 highway, Citrusdal, when they stopped a BMW X3. They ensured with a search of the vehicle upon which they found a blue bag hidden between the legs of one of the occupants of the vehicle. The bag which the members found, comprises 2102 mandrax tablets and 300 gram crystal meth. They arrested the five suspects on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The suspects are due to make their court appearance on Thursday 28 December 2023.
In an unrelated matter members of the Maitland Flying Squad received information about a firearm safe that is laying between informal dwellings in the Malawi camp in Ravensmead on Wednesday morning. The members conducted foot patrol and found the safe.
Upon inspection the members found three rifles inside the safe. Further investigations led the members to a premises in Vredehoek where they discovered that the house was burgled while the occupants is on vacation. The firearms were handed in at Ravensmead SAPS for safekeeping. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
