Earlier this afternoon the driver of a VW sedan vehicle, ignored a red traffic light at Wetton Rd and Chucker Rd. An unmarked, Transport Enforcement Unit vehicle was close by and officers signalled the vehicle to pull over.
The driver ignored instructions and attempted to get away, driving recklessly through numerous intersections. As additional response vehicles began joining the chase, the suspects were eventually brought to a stop in Monton Rd, in Kenwyn. One suspect managed to disembark and flee the scene, while all other occupants were detained.
Inside the vehicle, officers found a revolver with ammunition, knives and a cargo bag filled with cellular devices. With 5 suspects arrested, it then turned out that the cellphone shop on 274 Main Rd in Kenilworth had just suffered an armed robbery.
With the shop consultants now positively identifying the 5 suspects and verifying the stolen property, a case of Business Robbery was registered. A shortwhile later, the 6th suspect was spotted trying to leave the area and was arrested as well.
