Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were forced to abandoned thier vehicle and walk down a mountainside to get to the scene of a double murder in Amouti – Kwazulu Natal yesterday evening.
Community leaders contacted the RUSA Operations Center in Phoenix – KZN reporting that multiple gunshots were heard in the area.
When Reaction Officers got to the vicinity they were guided on foot to the scene where the body of 35-year-old male was found lying on a footpath. Paramedics declared him deceased. A suffered a sungle gunshot wound to his head.
According to residents the man was known gangster in the area and was a murder convict that was released from prison a month ago. An unlicensed 9mm pistol with a filed off serial number and a magazine was found lying next to him.
Officers were led to a second scene where a 45 year old female was found lying on the floor of her lounge.
She suffered several gunshot wounds to her chest and hands and was declared deceased. Spent 9mm cartridges were found in the room.
It is believed that the female was shot & killed by the male. It could not be immediately established if he turned the gun on himself or was shot by a person pursuing him.
Investigations are continuing.
