A resident of Tongaat in Kwazulu Natal shot a Housebreaker who attempted to gain entry into a flat this morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received the call for assistance at 03:51 Thursday from residents reporting a shooting in progress. When Reaction Officers arrived on scene they found a suspect with a single gunshot wound on his left leg. He also suffered a broken femur on his right leg.
When residents were interviewed, it was established that two suspects gained entry onto a premises on Plein Street – Tongaat. They manipulated the outdoor passive infrared beams and were forcing a window open when a male living in the vicinity confronted them.
One suspect drew a knife and attacked the resident who fired a single shot that struck the suspect on his left leg. The injured suspect then jumped over a wall, fell and broke his right leg. A knife and screwdriver was located on scene.
The second suspect fled on foot.
