As the holiday season comes to an end and many return to work, schools, and daily routines, the Department of Community Safety, Roads, and Transport calls on all road users to make road safety a shared responsibility. Together, we can prevent accidents, protect lives, and ensure safer roads for all.
Key Road Safety Tips:
– Vehicle check-up: Ensure your car is roadworthy. Check brakes, lights, windshield wipers, and tire pressure.
– Plan ahead: Allocate sufficient time for your trip to avoid rushing and fatigue.
– Buckle up: Seatbelts save lives-ensure everyone in the vehicle is secured.
– Stick to speed limits: Drive at a safe speed and adjust for weather or road conditions.
– Pedestrian safety: Slow down near schools, residential zones, and crosswalks. Be vigilant for children and pedestrians.
– Avoid distractions: Refrain from using mobile phones or engaging in other distractions while driving.
– Take breaks: Combat fatigue by resting every 2 hours during long trips.
– Obey road signs: Follow all road signs, markings, and signals for a smooth and safe journey.
– No drinking and driving: Alcohol impairs reaction time and judgment-never drive under the influence.
– Be prepared: Save emergency numbers and keep a first-aid kit handy in case of breakdowns or accidents.
– Switch on your lights (6 AM-1 PM): Keep your vehicle’s lights on during this period, even in daylight. This enhances visibility for other road users, especially during conditions of poor visibility such as mist, fog, or cloudy weather, and helps reduce accidents caused by low visibility.
Let us prioritize safety, stay vigilant, and respect each other on the roads. Arrive Alive-Your Safety is Our Priority.
