WESTERN CAPE – Heightened visibility and targeted policing in Vredenburg is showing dividends with the seizure of a firearm and an assortment of ammunition, yesterday, Thursday, 13 November 2025 at 10:15.
Vredenburg POP members were doing crime prevention duties in Louwville Vredenburg, when they received information about a firearm and ammunition at a premises in Pou Street Louwville Vredenburg. At the scene they searched the room of the suspect and found under the bed a .38 revolver without a serial number. Members also seized 41 rounds of .38 Special ammunition, 10 rounds of 7.65 ammunition and 38 x 9mm rounds of ammunition. A 38-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. He will appear in the Vredenburg Magistrate’s court once charged.
In an unrelated incident, on Thursday, 13 November 2025, Kensington SAPS members followed up on information about a person who is walking around with a firearm and has been mentioned in several shooting incidents. The suspect was found at an address in Skepe Plein, but jumped over to the back house. Before being caught, the suspect threw a firearm at the back of another house in Skepe Plein. The 20-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, he will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court for the mentioned charge.
