WESTERN CAPE – Concerted efforts to eradicate the influx of illicit drugs into the province as part of ongoing Safer Festive Season operations in the Central Karoo, yielded excellent results with the confiscation of 348 bundles of Khat.
On Sunday, 28 December 2025, at about 10:30, Leeu Gamka police members conducted patrols along the N1, where they stopped a Mercedes Benz taxi. The vigilant members proceeded with a search of the vehicle, where they noticed three big bags inside. They opened the bags and found collections of Khat stashed inside. Police confiscated the find and arrested the occupant, on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The 42-year-old suspect remains in police custody. He will appear in court once charged.
The strategic deployment of police at entry and exit routes to the province will be maintained to curb the influx of illicit drugs, unlicensed firearms and stolen goods for the duration of the festive period and beyond.
