On Friday, 02 January 2026 at around 09:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Springs Precinct Officers, in collaboration with Environmental Health Inspectors and other Eastern Region units, conducted a strategic operation targeting illegal activities in the Springs area.
During the operation, Officers responded to a tip-off about criminal activity on 3rd Avenue, Springs. Upon arrival, two male suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended. One suspect was found in possession of three packets of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R5,200. The second suspect admitted to being undocumented, which led to his attempted escape.
Both suspects were arrested and detained at Springs Police Station and are expected to appear before the Magistrate’s Court soon.
In addition, Officers inspected several supermarkets around the Springs Taxi Rank and confiscated food unfit for human consumption, with an estimated value of R6,000. The goods were disposed of accordingly.
