OR Tambo police continued with their high-intensity fight against crime in the district as they recovered two hijacked vehicles and prohibited firearms in Qumbu and Port St John’s between Friday, 20 March 2026 and Saturday, 21 March 2026.
In the first incident in Qumbu on Friday, 20 March 2026, Qumbu police recovered a Toyota bakkie that was hijacked and reported at Ngqeleni SAPS in December 2025. Collaboration amongst Mthatha Flying Squad, KwaBhaca Police and a Private Security Company, also led to the recovery of a hijacked Hyundai bakkie through the tracker system, found abandoned at Matyhamini locality, Qumbu.
In another unrelated incident in Port St Johns, a 66-year-old male suspect of Dangwane locality was arrested on Friday, 20 March 2026 by Highway patrol members through an intelligence-driven operation, for possession of an unlicenced firearm with one live round of ammunition.
