A hijacking suspect has been shot dead after allegedly trying to kill a security official in Klaarwater.
A Tracker Connect officer, working in the area, drove into a crime scene where a gang had just taken a Toyota Quantum at gunpoint.
They opened fire on his vehicle, prompting the security officer to defend himself by shooting back.
One of the alleged hijackers was struck and subsequently died, while the others fled.
Backup was called, and the Chatsworth SAPS Tracing Team, Mariannhill SAPS, Durban Metro Police K9, Tracker Connect, Fatima Protection Services, Blue Security and PT Alarms arrived to assist.
A second suspect has been found and placed under arrest.
Two guns have been seized.
The security officer escaped without injury.
