On Saturday 20 June 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit Officers, together with other law enforcement units, received an intel regarding a male, allegedly in possession of a hijacked vehicle in the Zonkezizwe area.
Further information indicated that the vehicle, was being kept at a safe house located on 82nd Street, Zone 2, where it was allegedly intended to be stripped for spare parts. The information was assessed and shared with the relevant role players for operational planning.
Upon arrival at the mentioned address, the suspect noticed Officers approaching and fled by jumping over the walls. Officers gave chase but lost side of the suspect.
Officers conducted a search of the premises and discovered a silver Toyota Quest bearing inside the garage. Enquiries confirmed that the vehicle, had been reported robbed and was positively linked to a Zonkezizwe CAS number.
The search continued, and an unlicensed silver .38 Special revolver with an obliterated serial number, concealed underneath a pillow in one of the bedrooms was recovered.
While Officers were processing the scene, smoke was seen coming from one of the bedrooms. Upon inspection, it was suspected that a heater that had been left switched on might have caused a fire. The Ekurhuleni Fire Department, was summoned to the scene and contained the fire before it could spread further.
