The Tactical Response Team in OR Tambo operationalised information about the location of an unlicensed firearm allegedly used as a murder weapon in a Tsolo murder case by an already arrested 63-year-old murder suspect on Saturday, 29 March 2025 at about 11:00. The firearm was recovered in New homes – Tsolo. A charge for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition has been added to the murder case.
The murder suspect led police to his homestead at New Homes where a firearm (erased serial number) with ten live rounds of ammunition was recovered with the suspect booked back at the holding cells.
In a separate incident in Lusikisiki – Dedeni locality, Ntafufu A/A, members of the District Task Team received information about a 60-year-old male suspect alleged to be in possession of unlicensed/prohibited firearms. Upon arrival and searching the homestead on Saturday, 29 March 2025 at about 15:30, members recovered two prohibited home-made shotguns with two live rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of unlicensed/prohibited firearms with ammunition. Both suspects will appear in their respective courts on Monday, 31 March 2025 facing the said charges.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Modishana, praised police members for cleaning the streets and localities of the district of unlicensed/prohibited firearms as these firearms are often used in the commission of serious and violent crimes and unnecessary loss of lives.
