Police in the Western Cape are hard at work to rid communities of firearms which are illegally in possession of criminals who use it to commit crime and instill fear.
Members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit conducted crime combatting high-density patrols in Leeu Street, N2 Gateway on Wednesday evening when they noticed a unknown man who acted suspiciously when he saw the police vehicle. The members apprehend the suspect, search him and found a 9mm pistol with nine rounds of ammunition in his possession. He could not produce a firearm license and was subsequently arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter, members of Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a 34-year-old man during crime prevention operations in Beacon Valley in the early hours of Thursday morning, 19 June 2025. The members were busy with patrols when they saw a unknown man walking in the road who changed direction upon seeing the members approaching. The members chased him on foot, apprehended and searched him. They discovered a pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
