Continued interventions to stabilise communities in the Western Cape plagued by gang violence yielded success during crime prevention operations on Wednesday, 24 September 2025.
Members of Operation Shanela II deployed in Delft area were conducting stop and search operations to combat gang violence and other serious and violent crime, when they searched a male in Chenou Street, and found him in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. He could not produce a firearm license and was subsequently arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm.
Furthermore, the members arrested a 40-year-old male during stop and search operations in Djebobo Street, N2 Gateway, when they found him in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition, ten packets containing crystal meth and a undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
The members also searched another adult male in Tornado Circle, Delft, and found him in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. He faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention members of Operation Shanela II deployed in Mfuleni, followed up information about a person who is selling drugs at a premises in Bosasa Link and searched the informal dwelling. The members found a .22 pistol, and a large amount of mandrax tablets in the informal dwelling. They arrested a 36-year-old male for the illegal possession of a firearm and possession of drugs.
The suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.
