Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT) received information from Cartrack regarding a hijacked vehicle that was travelling on the N2. The white Toyota Rumion had been hijacked earlier in the Montclair area and was tracked moving toward the Inanda Road area.
Responding immediately, our SOT members, together with Cartrack, Durban SAPS K9 and Greenwood Park SAPS, positioned themselves at strategic points to intercept the vehicle. Moments later,
Cartrack provided an updated location. The hijacked vehicle was stationary in a dead-end on Triumph Road in the Sea Cow Lake area.
Upon arrival, officers located the hijacked Toyota Rumion abandoned with no suspects present. Members conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area.
A short while later, while standing off at the recovered vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla entered the same dead-end. As soon as the occupants noticed the presence of security vehicles, they attempted to flee by reversing at high speed. Officers moved in to intercept.
During their attempted escape, the suspects collided with multiple boundary walls before crashing into a large structure on Triumph Road, bringing the vehicle to a complete halt. The suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Upon searching the abandoned Corolla, officers discovered a signal jammer on the passenger seat, indicating that the suspects had returned to disable the tracking device on the hijacked vehicle. It was later confirmed that the Corolla had been used by the suspects earlier in the evening during the hijacking incident.
Tragically, it was also discovered that the vehicle had struck a pedestrian during the suspects’ escape, leaving the victim trapped beneath the vehicle. eThekwini Fire and Rescue, along with paramedics, arrived promptly. Despite extensive efforts, the pedestrian was declared deceased on scene.
Both the hijacked vehicle recovered and the suspects’ Corolla, along with the signal jammer and all other exhibits, were handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing.
This coordinated multi-agency operation, led by Marshall Security SOT, Cartrack, Tracker SA, Durban SAPS K9, and Greenwood Park SAPS, highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven response, rapid intervention, and unwavering dedication to protecting the community and assisting in major crime investigations.
Marshall Security extends condolences to the family of the deceased pedestrian. Marshall Security urges the public to exercise caution and move to a place of safety whenever encountering active crime scenes or emergency situations.
