On Sunday afternoon, 01 February 2026, members of the Welkom #AntiGangUnit (AGU), currently deployed in Phuthaditjhaba, successfully apprehended two suspects for drug dealing in two separate incidents.
At approximately 13:00, the team acted on intelligence-led information regarding illicit drug activities at specific locations within the area.
Members swiftly operationalized the information and proceeded to an identified location in Phuthaditjhaba. A 33-year-old male was intercepted and found in possession of a quantity of “Rock” (cocaine) and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime.
In a follow-up operation, the team traced a second suspect to a local shopping complex. The suspect was caught in the act of distributing Crystal Meth and Nyaope.
Both suspects aged 33 and 34 were immediately arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. They are expected to make their first appearance in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court soon.
