Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested two suspects aged 44 and 45 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and attempted murder. The suspects were arrested in two separate operations conducted at KwaNdengezi and Muden, respectively.
On Monday, 09 February 2026, members from the Provincial Task Team arrested a 44-year-old suspect for a case of attempted murder which took place at KwaNdengezi on Sunday, 08 February 2026. It is alleged that the suspect went to a tuckshop and demanded a certain brand of cigarettes. He was informed that the shop did not have that particular brand of cigarettes. He then allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot at the person inside the tuckshop, after which he left the scene in his vehicle. The suspect was subsequently arrested in New Germany, and police seized his licensed firearm as well as the vehicle which was used during the commission of the crime. The suspect was detained and charged with attempted murder.
In another operation conducted on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, members from the Provincial Tracking Team, acting on intelligence, proceeded to the Oshikishi area under the Muden policing precinct, where they arrested a suspect who was found in unlawful possession of a firearm with seven (7) rounds of ammunition.
Both arrested suspects will appear on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, at the Pinetown and Greytown Magistrate’s Courts, respectively.
