On 22 June 2026, members of Task Team A responded swiftly after receiving information via Charlie Control regarding three male suspects allegedly armed with a firearm and attempting to rob a person in the Cannongate area.
Upon arrival, members tactically approached the suspects, who immediately fled on foot. A coordinated pursuit ensued on foot and by vehicle onto the freeway. One suspect, who was carrying the firearm, was successfully boxed in and apprehended.
During the arrest, the suspect discarded the firearm. Upon inspection, it was established that the weapon was a blank gun. Further investigation led to the recovery of two live rounds of ammunition in the suspect’s possession.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Durban Central SAPS on charges relating to the Immigration Act and unlawful possession of live ammunition.
