Two major infrastructure projects valued at approximately R400 million have been completed to the benefit of the Msinga community in the uMzinyathi district.
Road P373, which is located between Jolwayo to Ntababomvu and is 22,2 kilometres long, came as a great relief to the community, who had long experienced challenges connecting to areas of destination for daily socio-economic and educational needs. The road was upgraded from gravel to blacktop standards, has 2 lanes and an overall surface of width of 7 metres. Road P373 is valued at approximately R135,7 million.
P280 is located between Jolwayo and Tugela Ferry under the Msinga Local Municipality in Wards 5 and 6. Four (4) kilometres of P280 have been completed at an estimated investment cost of R95,4 million. It provides a critical link between P373, where the roads intersects and access to the Msinga community. Further construction is planned and the completed road will be 16 kilometres in length.
Both of these roads provide road users with easier access to amenities such as eMhlangana Provincial Clinic and schools such as Mabizela, Mhlakothi, Mashunka, Jolwayo and Mangaliso amongst others.
These roads have also created job opportunities to the surrounding communities to improve their standard of living and necessary skills have been imparted to the youth to enable them to start working for themselves.
