DURBAN – Yesterday at 15:00, an off-duty police officer was on his way home when he received information with regards to a suspect who was remote jamming vehicles in the Port Shepstone CBD.
He immediately contacted other police officers and they followed up on the information. The suspect was spotted and observed trying to jam a vehicle with a remote jamming device. He was apprehended and found in possession of a remote jammer. He was placed under arrest and taken to the police cells.
An investigation was conducted which linked the suspect to another case where a vehicle was broken into while parked on Reynolds Street where a firearm and clothes were taken on 10 March 2020. The information was followed up in KwaMashu with the assistance of various units in the SAPS. A firearm was recovered in the KwaMashu B Section. Further investigation was conducted and linked the suspect to a business robbery case committed in Hillcrest. A 40-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrates Court for possession of a remote jamming device.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers for the speedy arrest of the suspect.
