The Minister of Transport has published new directives in terms of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 in gazette number 43339 on 20 May 2020. The gazette is available on our website under Downloads.

- The Minister repealed the directive of 4 May 2020 that regulated, among other provisions, the 30-day grace period for all traffic documents that expired during lock-down and replaced it with the latest directive. The main provisions in the directive are summarised for your information.
- Driving licence testing centres, vehicle testing stations, driving schools and registering authorities must open on 1 June 2020 provided they comply with requirements in the gazette.
- The facilities must comply with the sanitation requirements and persons who work or visit these facilities must practice social distancing and wear masks
- All learner’s licences, driving licences, temporary driving licences (TDLs), professional driving permits (PRDPs), roadworthy certificates, motor vehicle licence discs and temporary permits that expire from 26 March 2020 to 31 May 2020 are valid for a further 90 days as from 1 June 2020
- Motor trade numbers (garage plates) that expire from 26 March 2020 to 31 May 2020 are valid for a further 6 months as from 20 May 2020
- Our 21st Annual Road Traffic and Transport Legislation workshops will no longer be held at the end of May and beginning of June this year. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic we moved the workshops. The new dates for the workshops are:
Stellenbosch – 10 November 2020
Durban – 12 November 2020
Pretoria – 25 November 2020
