POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the arrest of five suspected robbers who were allegedly terrorising communities under Thohoyandou, Levubu and Vuwani policing precincts.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of this morning following a series of armed robberies that were mostly targeted at the Indian business community and other foreign nationals.
The police received information about the hideouts of the suspects and a Task Team was immediately assembled to trace them. They were subsequently arrested in separate locations at Gondeni Ha Mabilu and Tshisahulu. The last suspect was nabbed at Itsani village at about 04:00 early this morning. The Team was comprised of Crime Intelligence, Detectives, Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the First Responders.
During the arrests, a Nissan NP 200, Citi Golf and one pistol which was allegedly robbed from its lawful owner at Itsani during a robbery that occurred last month were confiscated.
The suspects were positively linked with 11 robberies in which properties worth thousands of Rands were stolen. Further police investigations revealed that the suspects could be linked with other similar cases as police investigations are continuing.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 28, are expected to appear before Thohoyandou and Vuwani magistrate courts tomorrow on Friday 11 September 2020.
“These arrests will send a clear message to other robbers that the police will always be relentless when confronting the scourge of violent crimes anywhere in the Province. More so as they were effected a day after the other three armed robbers were nabbed soon after committing an armed robbery at a Pension Pay Point at Bergendal at Maleboho”, concluded General Ledwaba.
