The body of a man who was expected to relocate to Johannesburg this Sunday was found outside his rented home on Garden Street in Grange, Verulam.
At approximately 18:07 a tenant on the property contacted Reaction Unit South Africa stating that the man was asleep in his courtyard since 08:30 this morning (Tuesday). They grew concerned when they realized that several hours had passed and he did not wake up.
Reaction Officers and Medics were dispatched to the property and on arrival found the male lying at the entrance of his house. Medics assessed the individual and found that he showed no signs of life. His security gate and front door was ajar. It was also confirmed that he lived alone.
A tenant on the property informed RUSA Members that the man, who was only identified as Stephan last spoke to them at 06:30. He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Nearly two hours later he was seen lying in his courtyard when they assumed he was asleep. They placed a pillow under his head to make him comfortable.
She went on to explain that it was not uncommon for the deceased who is estimated to be in his late forties to be found sleeping outside his residence after a night of heavy drinking. The man was an employee of Food Lovers Market at The Crescent in Umhlanga.
He was in the process of selling his valuables and was expected to leave for Johannesburg to be reunited with his family this Sunday.
