The determination and diligence of Lt Col Gilbert Dikgetsi and Sgt Headman Machayona both stationed at the Provincial Operational Command Centre (POCC) in Kimberley led to the recovery of a stolen generator and the apprehension of two males.
On 21 February 2021 at 22:45 a generator was allegedly stolen from police premises in Kennilworth road in Kimberley. Lt Col Dikgetsi and Sgt Machayona decided to conduct their own investigations which led them to the recovery of a double cab Mahindra bakkie that was found abandoned in Mogul Park in Kimberley on 26 February 2021. Investigations revealed that the bakkie was believed to be stolen and that it was used in the theft of the generator.
Further investigations led the two officials to Modderriver where the generator was allegedly sold. Information revealed that the generator was being stored at a house in Monument Heights in Kimberley.
On 02 March 2021 at 17:40, Lt Col Dikgetsi and Sgt Machayona visited a residence in Oorklip street where they discovered the generator valued at R120 000-00. Two males aged 39 and 45 years old respectively were arrested and charged for the theft of the generator and will soon appear in court.
The Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Policing, Brig Hennie Van Rensburg applauded the two members for their determination and persistence in recovering the generator. He also urged the public to report and reject the stolen property.
